Tap…..tap….tap Riley woke up to some type of tapping noise somewhere in her room. Lifting her head up an inch or so, she peered through her long brown tangly locks as she looked for the source of the noise, and she saw a tawny owl outside of her window. Groaning, Riley sat up, and rubbed the sleep from her eyes before, standing onto her socked feet and walking over to the window. She opened the window, letting the owl in before walking back to her bed, sitting on it. “So, we getting our Hogwarts letters early then, are we?” she asked, not really expecting the owl to answer. It only looked at her sideways, holding it’s leg out. Shrugging, Riley pulled the letter off and the owl flew back out of the window into the open sky. “Yeah, it was nice seeing you too” Riley muttered sarcastically, still irritated about being woken up at ‘What time is it anyway’ Riley thought, looking at her watch. Her eyes grew wide. It was already noon. Riley turned her letter over and then opened the envelope, not pulling out one parchment, but two. Unfolding the first parchment, Riley read through the list of school supplies that she would need for this year, before setting it aside, and grabbing the second piece of paper. AS she read the first few sentences, her eyes grew steadily bigger and bigger. According to this letter, Riley Jackson was Slytherin’s new prefect. “Those idiots actually made me a prefect?” Riley muttered allowed. She reread the letter at least three times, before setting it aside and then walking to her wardrobe to find something to wear. She then walked to the bathroom to get ready for the new day. About two hours later, Riley was walking down the streets of Diagon Alley, with the things she already bought in various packages and what not on the trolley that she was pushing through the crowded streets. “Ok, just my books left” Riley muttered to herself, slipping her list in her pocket, alongside her prefect badge. She hadn’t wanted to leave it at the Three Broomsticks in case Tom or whoever cleaned the rooms would happen upon it. She glanced around the streets and smiled to herself. She saw her best friend, a Hufflepuff seventh year looking through the windows of one of the shops and walked towards him. “Hey Stephen, how are you man?” she asked, standing next to him, know, her smile wider now that she wasn’t alone.

Stephen woke to the sound of his alarm and a tapping at the window, one leg hung over the end of the bed and the pillow now over his head he grumbled before sitting up “who ever it is better have a dam good reason for waking me “he said pulling his head out from under the pillow, his blond hair now unbrushed and sticking up all over the place , turning to the window witch his bed was under he opened it to a tawny owl who dropped a letter on the bed then flew off much to his annoyance.
With a yawn and a stretch he opened it and read “ok nothing changed for me “he said pulling back the well used blanket and sheet to stand in just his boxers rubbing the back of his head, picking up a pair of jeans and a tee shirt he slowly dressed finally after his last trainer was tied he picked up his jacket ad the letter deciding to head down to diagon alley to pick up his school supplies and that illusive first coffee that he just could not go with out.
After several hours traveling he finally arrived in the alley his first stop a book store to get new books though he didn’t see why since the old ones had done him threw three years. Taking out the list he read it and re read it till he knew it off by heart, but first that coffee, he headed further down into the ally to a little coffee shop he knew and sat down inside ordering his coffee much to the amusement of the shy waitress, he smiled politely and paid for his drink before moving out of the café, for some reason he knew all the girls like d him but he didn’t know why he was to him just a regular Hogwarts guy. But it still didn’t stop the girls every time he spoke from smiling at him, he shook his head and headed back up the ally stopping to look at a broom in a window.
He smiled as he heard a familiar voice turning he saw her and walked over to her giving her the biggest hug she had ever had “Hey Riley, good to see ya again, how you been “he asked stepping back from hr as he blew across his coffee cup “yeah first coffee, haven’t broke that habit, don’t think I want ether “he grinned at her “so, spill, how’s it been?” He pulled the lid from the cup almost spilling it on himself as he took a sip the liquid was hot , hotter than he remembered and it almost burnt his tongue.

Riley laughed as she felt Stephen’s strong arms around her waist, giving her one of his biggest hugs yet. She stepped back around the same as Stephen, and then looked him up and down, liking that the Seventh year Hufflepuff had managed to get taller over the month that they had been apart. Not to mention that he was bloody damn well hot as well. “Hey Riley, good to see ya again, how you been?” Stephen asked her blowing on his cup of coffee. Riley looked into his eyes, an eyebrow arched, and a large smirked plastered onto her face, which was one of her famous, yet annoying trademarks. Stephen, who seemed to understand, looked down at his coffee, before looking back at her, smiling all the while. “Yeah first coffee, haven’t broke that habit, don’t think I want ether “he grinned at her “so, spill, how’s it been?” He asked Rile, who felt the urge to roll her eyes at that very moment. “Come on, let’s move out of the way, we’re blocking the path” Riley said grabbing hold of Stephen’s hand that was free from coffee and led him to the tables that stood outside of Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor. She sat Stephen down, and patted his head, before walking around the table and sitting as directly across from Stephen as she could, with the table being round and all. “So, I see you still have the tendency to act like a girl and all, I mean who says spill?” Riley laughed, amused clearly written in her brown eyes. Sighing, she grabbed Stephen’s cup and took a sip from it before smiling mischievously at him. “Oh, you know, I’ve convinced my foster parents to let me stay at the Leaky Cauldron, nothing new there. I spent the first two days just roaming around Diagon Alley, hoping that I would find you, but with no luck. Oh yeah, and I was just made a Prefect” Riley said, muttering that last statement under her breath before looking into Stephen’s eyes. “So, how have you been?” she asked, hoping that Stephen wouldn’t change the subject back to her being made a Prefect. She wasn’t sure if he was going to encourage her to behave now that she had the power to give detentions, or if Riley knew that Stephen knew her, he would probably be expecting some big prank now that she had some authority in her life. Whatever the case, Riley wasn’t going to change, just because she was made a Prefect. She was a Slytherin after all.

Stephen moved with her to the table across from where they stood he felt her ruffle his hair as she patted the top of his head “hey, I just got that straight. “ he said chuckling as he brushed her hand away and taking his coffee back he sat down to face her. “That’s good and I still say spill so , go on “ he said “Well nothings changed for me , still just single Stephen “he said with a sigh he looked up as she said she was staying at the leaky cauldron. “That’s good means you’ll be closer to school and have your independence too , I have my own place too, but I only use it during the summer “ he said showing her a key on a sliver Quidditch key ring “its not much but its mine , well my dads but he’s said I can use it as long as my grades stay up that is” he slipped the keys into his pocket once more before taking a sip from his coffee that he had taken back from her “So what you planning now that you’re a prefect ?” he asked looking up at her with a cheeky smile knowing she probably was planning something so out of caricature, he once more sipped his coffee feeling how it warmed him and seem to wake him with each sip he took from it.
Turning to glance back up the alley he could not help slip into a sight depressed state as he saw a couple walk towards him he was in his last year and still single. He gave a sigh “ Riley is there something wrong with me ?” he asked “every year it’s the same thing, me on my own, well apart from you but I can’t count you , we're just friends “ he said looking at her his eyes now sad "am i just not that apealing to girls or what, why can't i get a girlfreind?."

“Hey I just got that straight” Stephen complained, taking his coffee back and sipping it once again. Riley pouted and did what any fifth year Slytherin would do in her position. She stuck her tongue out childishly at him. “That’s good, I still say spill, so go on” he muttered. Riley watched him for a minute, wondering how on earth she was so lucky to have met a guy like Stephen. He was sweet, and nice. Oh, sure, he was gullible, but he would do anything for his friends and that’s all that mattered to Riley. Riley was brought back to reality when Stephen spoke. “Well, nothing’s changed for me, still just single Stephen.” he said with a sigh. “That’s good, means you’ll be closer to school and have your independence too. I have my own place too, but I only use it during the summer” Stephen explained as he showed her his silver Quidditch key ring. “It’s not much, but it’s mine, well my dad’s but he’s said I can use it as long as my grades stay up that is.” Riley chuckled. “Good luck with that mate” Riley muttered under her breath and looked up innocently into Stephen’s eyes when he asked what her plans were now that she was a Prefect. Riley cocked an eyebrow and looked flabbergasted. Putting on her best Hufflepuff imitation, she put her hands on her chest, gesturing towards herself and said “Why Stephen. You have no faith in my abilities do you?” Riley asked with mock sadness hidden in her tone. She smirked and smiled cheekily before answering him for real. “Why I don’t know yet, but it’s got to be good. I don’t want to abuse my powers but that means that I won’t be using it to my advantage, now does it?” All of a sudden the atmosphere around them dampened and Stephen turned to her, looking lost and sad. “Riley, is there something wrong with me? Am I just not that appealing to girls or what, why can’t I et a girlfriend?” he asked her desperately. Riley stood reached over and put her hand on top of his, looking him straight in the eyes. “Stephen McFadden, you are appealing to girls. You just haven’t found the right one yet. But, I have a feeling that you will soon, trust me” Riley said, forgetting to mention that she had the biggest crush on him at the moment. Sure, she was still fancying Nick Kang, but she also had feelings for her best friend, her brother all but in blood. And whoever Stephen ended up with, they had better treat her respect or they would be on the receiving end of her Slytherin side.

Stephen looked at her across the table and chuckled as she wished him luck with keeping his grades up "hey I’m not that bad" he said then chuckled "close to it but not that bad“ he watched as she put on a fake mock shock and a mock sadness hidden in her tone. He felt her place her hand on his sighing as she did he felt her soft skin against his , no he could not think those things she was his friend and that’s all it would ever be between them. Yet the touch of her skin on his sent his mind reeling and his body all goose bumpy. "I hope your right Riley, I am in my last year and it will get more difficult as the year goes by " he said sighing to her his thumb rubbing the back of her hand as he looked into his cup drinking the liquid inside.

Riley smiled warmly at Stephen, loving the feel of his thumb rubbing the back of her hand. Shaking her head, she willed those wanted yet unwanted thoughts from her head and looked sincerely into his eyes, with a smirk plastered across her face. “What? Is Stephen McFadden questioning me, your best friend since forever?” Riley put a hand to her heart and looked hurt, though she was far from it. “I’m hurt. If you think so poorly of my judgement, then maybe I won’t help you find that special someone.” Riley harrumphed and stuck her tongue out at him, hoping that he would understand that Riley was only joking. Putting on a serious face, she took Stephen’s hand back in hers and willed him to look into her eyes. “Of course I’m right. The ladays out here don’t know what they’re missing and sooner and later, they’ll notice you. ”I notice you since we first met’ Riley added to herself in her head, so that way Stephen wouldn’t’ get hurt, or rather her. After all, why would a seventh year Hufflepuff like a fifth year Slytherin? ((OOC: I’m so so so so sorry that I’ve replied late. I promise not to try to do that to you again. OH, and my phone’s been off so that’s why I haven’t text you and I haven’t been using yahoo mail lately. I hope you can forgive me ))

Stephen smiled "OK OK, don't worry " he said looking at her hand in his he coughed as he felt his cheeks turn pink "sorry instinct i guess he said trying to his the fact it turned even redder as he looked at her "why is this happening shes a fifth year I'm a seventh why dose my heart skip when she dose that" he thought to himself he shook himself back to reality and sipped his cooling coffee. He wished they had longer but sumer was rapidly fading and they would be soon back in school and he in his last year. If things did go some where it would have to be now or never. He opened his mouth to speak but then closed it too scared to say anything just in case she didn't feel the same as he did.
